The difference between welding robots and robot welding workstations

2024-09-24

A welding robot is mainly composed of a mechanical hand assembly, a control system, a teaching system, a welding machine, a wire feeding mechanism, a welding torch, etc. In addition to the welding robot, the robot welding workstation also includes many auxiliary devices such as ground rails, positioners, flip tables, weld seam tracking systems, safety fences, gun cleaners, safety systems, peripheral devices, etc., which work in coordination with the welding robot. The former is just a simple set of welding robots and is relatively inexpensive, while the price of the robot welding workstation is relatively higher.

The components of the robot welding workstation: Receive signals from the control cabinet to direct the welding torch to the welding position. The robot control cabinet receives external signals such as welding, teaching devices, and external control cabinets, and transmits the data to the robot to enable it to complete the welding task. The welding torch utilizes the heat generated by the high current and high voltage of the welding machine to accumulate at the end of the welding torch, melting the welding wire. The melted welding wire penetrates into the area to be welded. After cooling, the objects to be welded are firmly joined together. The purpose of the welding power supply is to melt the solder on the welding wire and the material to be welded by the high-temperature electric arc generated when the positive and negative poles are short-circuited in an instant, so as to combine the contact objects. In the system of the robot welding workstation, the welding power supply plays a crucial role.

The welding robot workstation mainly consists of two major parts. One part is industrial robots; Another part is the welding equipment. A robot mainly consists of the familiar robot body and the control cabinet (including both hardware and software parts). Welding equipment mainly includes welding power sources (including their control systems), wire feeders (for arc welding), and welding torches (pliers). For intelligent welding equipment, it also includes sensor detection systems, such as laser and camera sensors and control devices, etc.

At present, the automated equipment in the welding field mainly falls into two categories. One is the dedicated automatic welding machine, which is an automatic welding device specially designed for a certain type of weld seam or welding work. Another type is through welding equipment, usually using industrial robots as core components. Through programming, welding work can be carried out for different welding parts, so its scalability and universality are very high.
