From April 8 to 9, Sun Zhicheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Development of the National Development and Reform Commission, led a research group composed of 11 ministries and commissions to visit Fangchenggang City to conduct research on the construction of the Fangchenggang International Medical Open Experiment Zone and to visit relevant enterprises.
The research group was composed of the following 11 ministries and commissions: the Department of Europe and Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Social Development of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, the Department of Basic Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Planning of the National Health Commission, the Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine of the General Administration of Customs, the Department of Special Food of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Department of Animal and Plant of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Department of International Cooperation of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Department of Registration of the National Medical Products Administration, the Department of Intellectual Property Protection of the National Intellectual Property Administration, Xiangya Second Hospital of Central South University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In the afternoon of the 9th, accompanied by the leaders of Fangchenggang City, the research group visited the second-phase production base of Xiaozao Technology for an on-site inspection. The founder Dr. Yu Wei, Assistant to the President Mr. Zhang Zhiwei, and Plant Manager Mr. Cui Weimin received the group. Under the guidance of Dr. Yu Wei, the research group toured the microalgae cultivation ponds and viewed the display of Xiaozao Technology’s self-developed products, including microalgae slurry, algae powder, algae oil, and algae oil capsules. Dr. Yu Wei introduced the company’s cultivation techniques, production processes, production scale, and other aspects.
Dr. Yu Wei explained that microalgae cultivation only requires sunlight, seawater, and carbon dioxide for large-scale production, without the need for additional cultivation materials. Moreover, it can consume a significant amount of carbon dioxide, contributing to carbon reduction. Xiaozao Technology is the first company in China to scale up the use of carbon dioxide from flue gas for cultivation by cooperating with factories to channel treated carbon dioxide emissions through pipelines to the microalgae ponds.
Relevant research has already shown that EPA clinical trials have positive effects on patients with high triglycerides, and the market demand for EPA will continue to grow in the future. The microalgae cultivated by Xiaozao Technology, which contains only EPA, was independently screened and bred by the R&D team. It can extract algae oil that contains only EPA, without the limitation of proportion, and has a broader market prospect. Dr. Yu Wei also answered the questions about R&D, product application, and company construction that the research group was concerned about, and received high praise and recognition from the group.
The research group indicated that Xiaozao Technology's pollution-free, low-consumption, and recyclable production model is highly consistent with the national concept of energy saving and emission reduction. It is hoped that Xiaozao Technology can play a pioneering and exemplary role, accelerate the construction of an ecological and environmentally friendly industrial chain, promote the economic development of Fangchenggang area, and contribute to the construction of Fangchenggang International Medical Open Experiment Zone.
