III. Properties: A pale yellow to amber-coloured oily liquid at room temperature. It has a slightly bitter taste and is soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl acetate and toluene, but insoluble in mineral oils and vegetable oils. It possesses emulsifying, wetting and foaming properties and is classified as an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 15.0.

V. Applications: Used as an emulsifier in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs and cosmetics, as well as in various oil-in-water emulsions. In the textile industry, it is used as an oiling agent and lubricant. When used as an emulsifier, it is often blended with Span 80.
