3. Properties: At room temperature, it is a pale yellow to amber-coloured oily liquid or paste. It has a slightly bitter taste and is soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl acetate and toluene, but insoluble in mineral oils and vegetable oils. It possesses emulsifying, wetting and foaming properties and is classified as an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 14.9.

V. Applications: Used as an emulsifier in food and cosmetics, and in various O/W emulsions. Used as an oil agent and lubricant in the textile industry. When used as an emulsifier, it is often blended with Span-60.
