Product Overview

The PW-spray spray laser particle size analyser is a laser particle size analyser specifically designed to measure the droplet size distribution of small-scale spray equipment. It employs the Mie scattering principle and a Fourier optical system recommended by international standards, utilising a fibre-coupled semiconductor laser as the light source. A collimating lens converts the divergent light emitted by the fibre into a parallel beam, which is then directed onto the droplets in the test area. A large-aperture Fourier lens is used to collect scattered light signals from the droplets at various angles. An ultra-high-speed signal acquisition system captures the scattered light spectrum in real time, and mathematical methods are then applied to perform inverse calculations and determine the droplet size distribution.

Scope of Application

  • The PW-spray spray laser particle size analyser is widely used for particle size analysis of small-scale atomisation devices, medical nebulisers, atomised pharmaceuticals, various aerosols, sprays and other small-scale spray equipment. It provides data to support the optimisation of nozzle design and atomisation conditions, as well as the evaluation of spray performance. It is particularly suitable for meeting the particle size testing requirements specified in the National Pharmacopoeia for inhaled aerosols, aerosols, and powder sprays, as specified in the National Pharmacopoeia, and provides reliable particle size data for research into drug delivery and absorption during inhalation administration.

Technical Explanation

1 Compact and elegant portable design

The instrument features a structurally stable, integrated design that is compact and elegant, making it easy to carry. It incorporates high-grade dustproof, waterproof and shock-resistant technology, ensuring the instrument remains in optimal testing condition at all times without the need for optical path adjustment. The instrument is powered by a low-voltage DC (24V) supply, meeting the requirements for field testing.

11 Tailored optical path

To address the specific testing requirements for aerosol samples with a wide range of droplet sizes emitted by atomisation devices, this instrument employs a Fourier optical system recommended by international standards. It illuminates the droplets with a parallel beam, utilising a large-aperture (φ110 mm) Fourier lens in conjunction with a high-density, wide-angle detector to collect scattered light. This ensures that scattered light from droplets of varying positions and sizes is fully captured, guaranteeing testing accuracy.

1 High-power fibre-coupled semiconductor laser

The instrument utilises a high-power fibre-coupled semiconductor laser as its light source, which offers numerous advantages including high output power, excellent beam quality, outstanding stability, immunity to environmental interference and a long operational lifespan (>50,000 hours). This enables the laser to easily penetrate aerosol droplets of varying concentrations, providing a robust foundation for high-resolution and highly repeatable testing.

1 High-Speed Signal Processing System

Given that aerosol particles are characterised by high-speed motion, a wide particle size distribution and an irregular aerosol field, the aerosol particle size measurement system must possess robust signal processing capabilities. To this end, the instrument is specifically equipped with a high-speed data acquisition and signal processing system, with a sampling rate of up to 200 kbps. This enables the effective capture of particle scattered light signals with millisecond-level time differences, ensuring measurement accuracy and repeatability.

1 Multi-layered protection of the optical system

The fully enclosed optical path design prevents environmental dust and natural light from entering the testing optical system. A unique airflow protection system and droplet drainage mechanism effectively prevent droplet contamination of the optical lenses, ensuring accurate and reliable test results, eliminating the need for instrument maintenance, and extending service life.

1 Test Data Security and Management

The test software complies with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements and features data traceability functions such as electronic signature management, user management, permission management, security policies and log management, fully meeting the regulatory requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.
