Areas of Application
The SX series rotary lobe pumps are designed for a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, fine chemical and specialty food industries.
The SX series is EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) certified and fully suitable for CIP (Clean-in-Place) cleaning in accordance with EHEDG standards, making it ideal for applications demanding high levels of cleanliness and corrosion resistance.
In addition, the SX pump series complies with the US 3-A Sanitary Standards, and all product-wetted components meet FDA requirements.
SX pumps feature high operating efficiency and low shear force, ensuring gentle handling of fragile and sensitive media.
The SX pump series is classified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres under ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, Group II, Category 2 and 3, Temperature Classes T1 to T4.
The SX series features a compact design, with a flow rate up to 115 m³/h and pressure up to 15 bar.
Standard Design
Pump Gearbox
SX pumps follow the traditional rotary lobe pump design concept, with a robust cast iron gearbox that provides maximum shaft rigidity and easy oil seal replacement.
The SX 1–4 models feature a universal gearbox design, allowing flexible pump installation. The inlet and outlet ports can be configured vertically or horizontally by adjusting the baseplate and its position.
The SX 5 and 6 models use dedicated gearbox castings, also allowing vertical or horizontal port orientation.
The SX 7 model uses a dedicated gearbox casting, with inlet and outlet ports limited to vertical orientation only.
Pump Head Components
SX pumps are equipped with hygienic full-bore inlet and outlet ports complying with international standards, maximizing port efficiency and NPSH performance.
Vertical ports and a unique rotor housing internal design enhance self-draining and self-venting capabilities while maintaining optimum volumetric efficiency.
SX pumps are fitted with four-lobe rotors, developed using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for an optimized rotor mechanism – believed to be one of the first rotary lobe pumps developed with this technology.
All rotors are rated for operation up to 150 °C, suitable for CIP/SIP (Sterilize-in-Place) processes.
Materials of Construction
- Gearbox: High-quality grey cast iron
- Pump head: Product-wetted parts manufactured from 316L stainless steel
- Product-wetted elastomers: EPDM, MVQ, FPM, all complying with FDA requirements
All product-wetted elastomers feature controlled clamped joints – a state-of-the-art technology using static and dynamic rubber seals to prevent pumped media from leaking to the atmosphere.
All product-wetted elastomer parts comply with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and (for PTFE) 21 CFR 177.1550.
In addition, EPDM elastomers meet USP Class VI, Class 88 for biological reactivity tests in vivo.
Seal components:
- Front cover clamped joint
- Spline seal cup seal
- Cup seal
- Retaining ring
Shaft Seal Options
- Type R00 single mechanical seal or single flushed/cooled seal (steam barrier available for aseptic applications)
- Double Type R00 mechanical seal for flushed sealing
All seal options are fully front-loading and fully interchangeable, without requiring any additional casings, gaskets or replacement of pump body components.
No special setting tools are needed for the mechanical seals, as they are pre-set and dimensionally matched during pump assembly.
This feature further improves the speed and efficiency of on-site seal interchangeability.
Mechanical Seal Materials
Carbon / Stainless Steel, Silicon Carbide / Silicon Carbide, or other material combinations to suit the properties of the pumped fluid and/or application requirements.
Material combinations for seal housings and seal faces comply with EHEDG standards.

Operating Principle
The positive displacement action of the SX pump is achieved by two non-contacting, counter-rotating four-lobe rotors operating within a fully streamlined pump chamber.
All SX pumps are capable of bi-directional rotation without any design modifications.
