III. Properties: At room temperature, it is a yellow to amber-coloured viscous liquid or paste. It has a distinctive odour and is slightly soluble in isopropanol, tetrachloroethylene, xylene, cottonseed oil and mineral oil; it is sparingly soluble in liquid paraffin and insoluble in water, forming an emulsion upon dispersion. It possesses emulsifying, lubricating, stabilising and defoaming properties and is classified as a W/O emulsifier with an HLB value of 8.6.

V. Uses: May be used in foodstuffs as an emulsifier; also used as an oil-in-water emulsifier in the cosmetics, coatings and textile industries.
